What Breaks Your Heart?
This simple question is loaded with potential.
When fueled by God's will and the Holy Spirit, this question, when answered, has the power to change your life and the lives of those around you. And it's different for everyone. We all have something deep down in us that breaks our heart - and oftentimes this is coupled with our calling.
So, if you're searching for your calling, or a place where you can give back or serve, try to find out what breaks your heart and if it's something that also breaks God's heart. Where can you give back? Where can your little be used by God to grow into something huge?
North Point Church did a series on serving several years ago and this question got me thinking. What breaks my heart? I honestly couldn't think of anything, except this one little thing deep down in me. But anytime I'd think of it, I didn't know what to do. How could I help with such a huge crisis as this... However, it was the truthful answer to this question, so I took a little leap, did some research, and got involved... The answer to that question for me was the orphan crisis - particularly the orphans in China. I remember hearing Andy Stanley talk about how he and his wife went to some orphanages in China and their hearts broke for the baby girls that were given up and put in orphanages there because of China's 1-child policy. So God led me (through some research and google, lol) to Show Hope where I found a trustworthy organization that was doing something (and doing something HUGE) to help the orphan crisis in China. They fund adoption aid grants for families needing financial help to bring their waiting children home. And they also have Maria's Big House of Hope in China to care for orphans with special needs that may not receive the proper medical treatment from other orphanages.
So... the little prompting in my heart to answer this question may not have a whole lot of impact, but when thousands and thousands of others give to organizations like this by answering their question, it starts to add up. And I desperately hope and pray that one day I can adopt too - whether it's one child that needs a family, or 10 kids, whatever God's will is, I will do it wholeheartedly. But I know that simply answering this question has changed my life, the lives of children, other families, and the future generation as well. And I couldn't ask for more than that.
