Look What You Made Me Do

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do

The 9th-most popular song right now repeats this phrase several times over. And unfortunately if you repeat something over and over and say it to yourself enough, you'll start to believe it. So that got me thinking, do I play the blame game? Do you play the blame game? Say I was caught doing something wrong - I get called out on it. And what's my response? I could say, 'Well, you...." insert whatever kind of blame you want. Look at what you made me do.

I think that this kind of response is running rampant in the current millennial mindset. I try and check myself daily of this - whether or not I'm shifting blame or owning up to it and say, 'yes, I was wrong. What can I do to fix it?' Sadly, I and so many others often fail at this. Nowadays, it's almost commonplace when we shirk taking responsibility for our actions and when we do that we make an excuse not to change. We blind ourselves into thinking nothing is wrong with us - everyone else is just wrong.

So how do we change?
Merely be mindful.

When you're caught in something wrong or you sin or you fail, what is the first thing to come out of your mouth? Do we try to justify it, become defensive, or do we put the blame back onto others, or worse yet, God?
But praise God that He does give us grace. Grace and Truth. We can run in full repentance back to our Father's loving arms, but He does call us to obey certain truths and walk the walk and talk the talk. You can't have one without the other. And we can respond with thankful hearts that God checks our pride with these 'course corrections' and loves us enough to correct us as a loving Father.

James 4:6
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
